The Weekly Rap

Halloween week began with the smell of cinnamon pine cones coated in apple butter and rolled in bird seed. Not surprisingly, the local honeybees have found more enjoyment in these fence-decorations than the birds have! Keeping with the fall theme, Ms. Melodie's class gutted a pumpkin together, washed the seeds, and baked them in the oven with butter and salt. The kids devoured them!

Weekend chicken-duty has been a huge hit, and involves many endearing and sometimes hilarious stories (...does a Halloween party-going dad, dressed in his toga costume, chasing chickens to lock them up for the night ring a bell anyone?) On a more heartfelt level, one parent emailed me this message:

"...in addition to food, my son gave them all hugs goodnight. They're gorgeous birds. Nice to spend some time with them. Bonus: my son fell asleep on the drive home and went right to bed when we arrived. He rounded the chickens up in his pajamas and boots like a proper farm boy. Cool fall air is better than warm milk."
The best part of this week has definitely been the dances our students are learning. Ms. Melodie's students are in love with a song she sings about being a little squirrel. The kids get to choose what color squirrel they are each round and wiggle their bushy tails. Ms. Marie's class has been listening to lots of Hap Palmer this week. Today they danced to a song called "Weekly Rap." Make sure you watch the original video by clicking the link. As we were watching it, a little girl walked into the office and informed us, "but we're way gooder than that because we lay down when we're pretending to sleep." It's absolutely hilarious to watch our students jumping all over the place like it was 1992!
