welcoming spring

Many of you have probably noticed that this blog post is late! At 3pm on Friday, after moving the kindergarten class outdoors and planting our seeds in the sun, we realized the weekly photos hadn't been uploaded and the weather was just too beautiful to sit in front of a computer screen. Still, we do apologize if we threw off your Sunday morning coffee-Ava Wanas blog routine... ;)

Last week was absolutely wonderful. Ms. Melodie's class walked outside one morning to discover their fall-planted blubs were in bloom. They had a great time looking at them up close with a magnifying glass. They also made some delicious coconut milk rice one day. Even the children who claimed not to like rice devoured it! Both classes have been decorating their trees for spring with little tissue paper flowers and the school is looking very lively.

Ms. Marie's students are completely absorbed in the culture of Mexico. Several of the children have suddenly become wild, creative, spontaneous artists with inspiration from Diego Rivera. On several days, the kids created a dish that Frida Kahlo loved. It mirrors the Mexican flag. The green comes from lime juice, spring onions, and cilantro. The red comes from salsa, and the white is plain rice. Of course, all of the kids enjoyed making it and a few didn't like it, but we were shocked at how many of them willingly finished their entire bowls!
